Community service opportunities for court-ordered degenerates such as myself?

Community service opportunities for court-ordered degenerates such as myself?

Has anyone here had to do court-ordered community service? If so, where did you do it? I'm finding that some places will not accept volunteers with my charges. (Long story short I was shoplifting to support my heroin addiction. Good times. 51 days clean at the moment.) I still have inquiries out to several groups but I thought someone may have some insight. I don't have a criminal record (yet) provided that I get this done within the next couple months. Thanks.

Tryin to make a change :-\

Hi there! I'm sorry to say that I can't help answer your question, but I do want to say congratulations for getting clean and sticking with it. I've been clean for about a year since I got arrested for copping. It's hard, I know. Join us over in r/opiatesrecovery sometime if you feel like it.

Thanks! I actually read that sub quite often. It's really helped me out.

I did mine at Diversity Thrift. My charges were different so I can't really say whether or not they'd be sympathetic to your situation. Still probably worth a shot. Good luck!

Diversity Came through for me. Thanks!

Try contacting the Adult Probation office (804-646-8955). They may have a list of community service in the area that take court referrals. OAR of Richmond also may have leads on approved community service (804-219-6685).

Congrats on being clean and good luck.

I did mine at the Goodwill on Broad and Horsepen. If you give them a call they'll put you to work folding clothes or helping people unload donation trucks.

I did mine at Goodwill on Midlothian near Powhite. I walked right in and said I needed to do court appointed community service. Not a heroin possession (devils lettuce) but they told me as long as it wasn't a violent crime (assault, etc.) they will work with me. This was back in April of this year. I was told you had to work a period of at least 4 hours. They were pretty flexible since I have an office job and could only work from 5:15-8. Hope this helps.

Congrats on the 50+ days though! That's awesome! :)

Did you contact someone at that store or is there a regional Goodwill office you went through?

I don't have anything to add, but congrats on being clean. Best of luck to you.

My dad did his at the dump in Chesterfield (and subsequently loved it, highly recommends it). I'd be shocked if they denied someone because of a shoplifting charge being that you can't really steal trash...

surprisingly a lot of service workers come there and seem to enjoy plus it helps us out when swamped. I recommend it as well.

Diversity Thrift, you can also look into animal rescue organizations like AARF

Onomatopoeias rock!

Food Not Bombs is a good cause, relatively easy work with good people, and counts as community service.

The VCU library used to offer this, not sure if they still do. Mostly stacking books but an easy gig. Also stay clean, I just lost a friend in the RIC area due to heroin. They said that hey have seen a significant increase in od's during the past few months. Don't let that happen to you.

The shit going around has hot spots of fentanyl in it. Cuts down on costs for the dealers and gives a better rush if you don't die from it first.

Diversity Thrift is a really good place to do community service from my experience. With your charges I don't know if that will hold you up with them though. The SPCA on Hermitage is another great one to do community service at and even with your charges I doubt they would stop you from helping out there. Congrats on staying clean it's a long road ahead but joining an NA program will help you a lot in court and with possible probation as well.

Congrats on the 51 days. Keep at it
